The best known routes across the interior are across Kjölur along the river Blanda with a stop at Hveravellir, and from Vesturdalur in Skagafjörður to Sprengisandur. Traveling in the interior in the winter in snowmobiles, four-wheel drive vehicles or on skis has become more and more popular.
